Demon Spirits Occupy All Idolatry
Idolatry takes place when we worship anything created of man instead of worshiping God. We tend to think of idols as being physical objects or images, but for the New Testament Christian idolatry is not so much the bowing down before a statue, although such is still rampant, rather it is the mental harlotry of replacing God with anything in the mind of the purported believer and worshiper. As soon as anything comes between us and God be it physical or mental that thing is an idol. The Bible repeatedly warns us not to be involved in any form of idolatry either consciously or unconsciously and neither publicly nor in private. All forms of idolatry and every idol whether mental, physical or a combination of the same has a demon associated with it that induces the idolatry with its associated forms of worship. Idols of themselves are nothing without the demons that lie behind them seducing people. The enticement and deception of idolatry in all pagan religions (sports, drugs, sex, horoscopes, adventure, spiritualism, witchcraft, entertainment, knowledge, science) is so strong in the last days that even the plagues sent upon the earth will not deter it. Men will refuse to give up the symbols or the thing that is destroying them and turn to God: “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:” (Rev 9:20)
Idolatry comprises a most dangerous and deceptive foe because of the spirits that lie behind it. “Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1Ti 4:1) These seducing spirits take many into a ‘land of compromise’ within the Church and we find mixtures of worship of the true God with idols of mental creation. The true object of worship for a plethora of modern ministries comprises their deeds done in the name of the Lord and pursuit of reputation or fame. For many clergy and layman alike we find the material objects of cars, land, houses and ‘hobbies’ topping our physical idols list. Mentally our prime idols have become love of self, self-image, family, popular heroes and carnal appetites of the flesh. All such activities are based upon the deceit of pride. The prophet Hosea tied together the ideas of idolatry, physical adultery and spiritual adultery into a vivid portrayal of the state of deception we face today. Why? Because the idolater is not simply someone bowing down to a physical object. An idolater is someone who has become a slave to the ‘ideas’ that his idol represents and these ‘ideas’ create lusts and desires of one form or another that lead to separation from God. The sins of the mind and the sins of the flesh become bound together in a form of idolatry that we should recognize and avoid at all costs. Such is the case as shown with covetousness, which can be defined as ‘an intense desire to possess someone or something that belongs to another person’. One does not normally think of covetousness as ‘idolatry’ but that is how the apostle Paul labeled such sin: “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” (Col 3:5) The warning against this form of idolatry is very strong. “For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” (Eph 5:5) Those who display the idolatry of covetousness are either steeped in deception or have an arrogant disregard of God’s law that shall lead to heavy chastisement. There is a greedy self-centeredness in people that seek out their own hedonistic self-gratification, no matter how great the cost nor method they have to employ to satisfy it. Such are the ‘anti-Christ’s’ among us and people that have been given a ‘delusion of God’ because of their continuous refusal to listen to His word.
We are to separate ourselves from all idolatry and idols. Do you want to determine if your favorite ‘activity’, idea or relationship has become an idol and time sucking demon in your life that hinders your walk with God? Simply try giving it up for a period of time. If you cannot then quickly turn toward Jesus and away from the methods of man for you are probably the victim of a seducing spirit.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1
A yoke is a bar for oxen that ties them together so they may bear a heavy load. Naturally oxen cannot choose whether to bear such loads or not, for they are under the bondage and restraints of their owners. As members of the body of Christ bondage is anything that keeps us from the freedom in Christ Jesus. Unlike oxen we can choose not to remain in servitude and may cast off the yokes placed upon us by religious institutions and the men that run them. Some men that create burdening circumstances of bondage do so in innocence through their ignorance of the word of God, but others are deliberate yoke makers who merchandise us if we permit them to. (Hosea 4:6) “And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you.” (2Peter 2:3) Whether from ignorance or deliberate intent, it is these yoke makers that we must deal with to gain our freedom and pass from being the simple servant of Jesus to being his friend. We must take a cursory look at some ‘yoke makers’ if we are to remain free or gain freedom from the deception they are under and try to perpetuate upon us.
The Yoke Makers
1. “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be the friend of the world is the enemy of God?” (James 4:4) People in this grouping compromise the word of God through the use of worldly methods and values to build the Church and they teach others to do the same. Churches under such leadership mentality usually find themselves caught into a plethora of ‘reaching out’ ministries that employ methods used by social service organizations. There is an ‘end justifies the means attitude’ that sees physical growth and size of church community as evidence of God’s blessing when in reality it is only man’s works. “Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” (Luke 16:15) The evil idolatry of such ministry and works truly saddens the heart of our Lord.
2. “This people draw near unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15: 8-9) One of the greatest transgressors in this arena is the Roman Catholic priesthood with their plethora of special day celebrations and promotion of vain and repetitious prayers such as the ‘Rosary’ with its endless intercession through Mary as the ‘Mother of God’. However, to this battery must also be added ‘comfort zone teachers’ with their prosperity doctrines and misguided teachings surrounding doctrines of unconditional love. All such teachings remove you from a relationship of simply ‘being in Christ’ and place emphasis upon receiving things from Him as being a sign of spiritual blessing.
3. “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but have pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2Thessalonians 2: 11-12) These spiritually sick groupings actually ‘take pleasure in unrighteousness’ and within such ranks are certainly found the practicing homosexuals, lesbians and deluded churches that support them. We are not to tolerate this lot but are required to rebuke both the practitioners and their supporters. If there is refusal to listen then “a man that is a heretic after the first and second admonition reject; knowing that he is such is subverted, and sins, being condemned of himself.” (Titus 3: 10-11)
4. Heed this, “for such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” (2Corinthians 11: 13-15) Here we encounter the men spoken to by the prophet Jeremiah: “Woe be unto you pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture says the Lord. For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, says the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:1,11) Such men are found in abundance amid the Catholic priests with their homosexuality and pedophilia and amid the Anglicans with their open tolerance of the men who perform such acts. The former Arch Bishop of Canterbury was one such deluded person who supports all types of these sinners. This clearly is evidence of the deception he is under and the fact he cannot comprehend the simple word of God.
In these ranks we also find people as addressed by Jesus: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.” (Matt 23: 13-14) Many well-meaning pastors, Bible college professors, teachers and church administrators swell these ranks. Such men zealously guard their positions for the financial and social benefit it accrues them. They block the advance of the Kingdom through their limiting of the teaching of the unfettered Word to what they are comfortable with or that which does not threaten their own self-righteous standing or misunderstanding. These persons reject His knowledge and thus face the reality that: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shall be no priest to me:” (Hosea 4:6)
The list seems endless, but also amid deceitful workers and false apostles are those that ordain women to the pastoral headship over a flock such as the Four Square Gospel Church and the Assemblies of God. “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” (1Ti 2:12) With such people in abundance we say “it is time for thee to work Lord, for they have made void thy law.” (Psalms 119:126) Being we are surrounded by so many spirits of anti-Christ how do we clearly identify those that have been ‘transformed to look like ministers of righteousness’? 1John 4:1-4 provides the test and proof absolute but another way of knowing is when those who are deliberately teaching error from an office of leadership repeatedly refuse to repent. Such is the case we find with Roman Catholic bishops who claim that the Bible is not true if it contradicts their church doctrine because they say the church existed before the Bible. What blasphemy to pour out from a sinful man’s polluted mouth. When men teach others to deliberately violate the word of God they must repent or face an eternal damnation! It is that simple fate which faces priests, pastors and ministers that demand people violate God’s word through any form of idolatry and perpetuate the deliberate breaking of His commandments. Do you need to repent of such odious actions? Do you rank somewhere among the four general ranks of the yoke makers?
Has your life in some manner become a living witness to your idolatry? Has your mouth foolishly spoken against the Lord? Are you nothing more than a stumbling block for those seeking the fullness of a ‘life in Christ’? Perhaps you are akin to the foolish followers of Islam and have not yet asked Christ to be the Lord of your life. If you are reading this, it is likely your final time of warning to get right with the God of Creation. You will not like the eternal results of a wrong choice, so examine yourself carefully as Jesus is returning soon whether you like it or not. Wake up, God does not require your permission for anything and His time is drawing to closure exactly as spoken in Bible prophecy. So, with Jesus knocking on the door it is truly a time to repent!
“Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16)
